Part 2: Luxury Unveiled - The Design & Build Journey of a Brownstone Masterpiece

In the spirit of being the most helpful home remodeling related entity on the planet, this week we continue a series where we review a recently completed project that you will not want to miss!  It is the most ornate, detailed project we have ever completed, and the visuals are stunning (so check out the video link above).  In part 2 of this series, aside from the continued phenomenal visuals, we answer these critical questions.  How do you address trim where 2 windows come together?  How do you adapt when you have an unexpectedly cool piece of furniture that you want to display differently?  How do you hide a printer in built ins?  What do you do when you want to duplicate a feature of a nearby hotel that gives you joy?  So many questions… and here are some answers as we continue to demystify detailed trim design.

When you’re engaged in a major stained trim project with elegant details throughout an entire home office, there are always several things to keep in mind.  Allow us to help you understand the most important things to consider.

Window Trim

Let’s begin with window trim.  If you are about to take an elaborate approach to trimming out a window, be sure to look at all the consequences of your actions.  In our video, you will see that the trim size was so large that it had to be cut down between two windows and as such, we had to consider what would happen where the trim pieces came together.  In the end, we took an approach that made these two pieces look like one and then made the critical adjustments at the top to make everything look intentional.  Again, see the video!

Printer Relations

Let’s be honest… who wants to see the printer sitting out in a public space if you can hide it?  All it takes is a little planning.  In the video, you will see we constructed a roll tray that the printer sits on and rests hidden behind a door.  When you need access, simply roll it out and use it as needed.

Hotel Inspiration

In this project, the wainscoting selected within the home office had a special inspiration… the nearby Hotel Carmichael!  We were given a picture of a stained trim package located in the hotel and asked to duplicate this feature… which is exactly what we did.  Everyone has a detail within a project that is important to them.  This exquisite stained trim was the inspiration for the home office.  Take a look at the video to see the outcome of our efforts!

Remember, stained trim has a warmth and richness that sets it apart from painted trim.  There is no right or wrong in this decision… simply a different feel to the space once the trim is applied.  As always, a well-chosen trim detail can become a feature of your space.  If you have any questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out and ask.  We are here to help.

Happy home officing!
