Why do we go to work? What brings us enjoyment in our lives? Big existential questions, right? Well, this week is a bit of a behind the scenes of a recent family celebration, but with a purpose. Why do we remodel our homes? If I have piqued your curiosity, keep reading or watch the 3 minute video as we continue to demystify the remodeling process.
Have you ever thought about the fact that when you a re in your final days looking back upon your life, you probably won’t focus a lot on the work problems you experienced, but rather the positive memories with family, friends and coworkers over your lifetime?
Well, I had reason to think about those things recently as my youngest daughter got engaged… in my front yard… in front of many of her friends and several family members. It was quite a memorable experience (check out the video if you are curious)!
In reflecting on the event and the joyous occasion, a few things struck me.
The Role Our Home Played
I guess I was taken back by the idea that my soon to be son-in-law and my daughter expressed interest in having an event at our home. Should I have been? Maybe not… but in thinking about it, I am honored that they were comfortable enough to want to invite everyone to come our way. It could have been done anywhere, but we had created a home that they wanted to come to and that made me feel very good.
Our Projects Had Purpose
The projects we have done on our own home over the years have served to host an event like this where people could come and enjoy an evening and be comfortable to let loose and have fun. That makes me happy.
It also didn’t hurt that we engaged in projects that made hosting a gathering like this a bit easier! We planned for this type of use of our space and had very few regrets after the event.
People Think We Build Projects. We Like To Think We Build Memories.
As you plan and execute and endure a renovation project, it is certain to bring a level of stress into your life that you might prefer to avoid, but I can now speak from experience that when you witness and participate in memorable life events (like this engagement of our youngest daughter) it makes all those challenges worthwhile.
I often write about how our product at The Lifestyle Group is not the actual project itself, but it is our people and our process. I think I need to add that our ultimate goal is really to build memories for you and your family in the spaces we renovate.
Most commonly, those day-to-day memories might be the subtle things like your dog’s routine every night or drinking coffee in your favorite spot in the morning. Sometimes, you get the significant life experience like we just had where it jumps straight to the top of the all-time list.
I hope someday something we helped with in your home eventually makes it onto your all-time list!
If you ever have questions, as always, please don’t hesitate to ask!
